Jeff Baker – Phrases featuring Darrell Grant

Called “…one of the best male vocalists in the jazz world today” by WCLK in Atlanta, Jeff Baker has quickly become one of the most significant talents in the next generation of jazz vocalists. The 2016 Montavilla Jazz Festival will mark the world premier of Phrases.

After a 7 year absence, this critically acclaimed vocalist will return to the studio to record a new project in 2016. Easily his most ambitious recording yet, Phrases will be a musical collaboration with some of Baker’s closest friends, and musicians he has admired for years. The album will feature original songs by Baker, and music, arrangements and adaptations of contemporary artists like Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, Oren Lavie, and others. Joining Baker as musical director & Co-producer, is acclaimed pianist and composer, Darrell Grant. Additionally, Phrases will include Baker’s long time friends, bassist Clark Sommers, and saxophonist Geof Bradfield; as well as some of the most influential and compelling jazz musicians in the world today including Brian Blade, Steve Wilson, and 2015 Thelonious Monk Competition Winner, trumpeter Marquis Hill.
